A boy was struck by a motorist fleeing the scene of an accident in Perris, suffering life-threatening injuries, authorities said Thursday.
The hit-and-run occurred about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday near the intersection of South C and West Third streets, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
Sgt. Jeremy Bracey said the youth, who was not identified, was walking with his family when they began crossing C Street about the time that a southbound motorist clipped a parked car in his pickup truck.
“As the truck began fleeing the collision scene, it then struck the juvenile,” Bracey said. “The truck was last seen in the area of West Fourth Street and South A Street.”
Paramedics reached the location minutes later and found the victim with major injuries. He was taken to a regional trauma center in critical condition, according to the sergeant.
The child’s condition Thursday couldn’t immediately be confirmed.
His family members were not hurt in the hit-and-run.
The vehicle was described as a full-size pickup, dark in color. The make, model and license plate details weren’t provided.
