Two students were involved in a fight Monday at a high school in La Puente, which resulted in one being stabbed and requiring medical treatment.
Deputies responded to a high school in the 400 block of Nogales Street at about 9:55 a.m., according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Nogales High School is located at 401 Nogales St.
Investigators discovered during their investigation that two students were involved in a fight inside a restroom when one of the students produced a knife and stabbed the other student in the upper body.
“A staff member at the school heard the commotion inside the restroom and broke up the fight,” sheriff’s officials said in a statement. “While breaking up the fight, the staff member sustained a superficial wound to a hand that did not require medical treatment.”
The injured student was taken to a hospital for minor injuries sustained from the stabbing, authorities said.
Although the fight was deemed an isolated incident, deputies from the LASD’s Industry station will conduct high visibility patrol checks, and a school resource deputy will be on campus starting Tuesday morning.
Anyone with information about the fight or the stabbing was urged to contact the LASD’s Industry station at 626-330-3322. Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or visit lacrimestoppers.org.
