A 30-year-old man who died after a shooting involving one or more sheriff’s deputies in the Pearblossom area was identified Monday by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner.

The shooting occurred at about 6:45 a.m. Friday in the 13000 block of Pearblossom Highway, southeast of Palmdale, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies were sent to the location on a report of an “assault with a deadly weapon, person with a knife, at one of the businesses,” sheriff’s Lt. Patricia Thomas told reporters at the scene.

The deputies drove around looking for the suspect, and when they found him at or near a gas station, the man advanced toward deputies while armed with a sharp object, prompting the shooting, according to the sheriff’s department.

“The suspect was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased,” Thomas said.

According to the county medical examiner, the man was identified as Joseph Henson.

Investigators recovered the “sharp object” at the scene, sheriff’s officials said.

Anyone with information on the case was urged to call the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500, or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS. Tipsters may also use the website lacrimestoppers.org.
