Flames were showing from the rear of a single-story home in the Historic South Central Los Angeles area when firefighters arrived Sunday evening, but they put out the fire in 17 minutes.
The fire was reported at 9:58 p.m. Sunday at 524 E. 33rd St., said the Los Angeles Fire Department’s Brian Humphrey.
The quick response kept the flames contained to the rear corner and attic of the nearly 2,000-thousand-square-foot house, built in 1906 and prevented spread to an adjacent structure, Humphrey said
Six civilians who were in or near the home were evaluated for what he termed “non-specific complaints, including possible smoke exposure.”
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
