A suspected drunk driver triggered a head-on crash that killed him and another driver in Silverado Canyon, authorities said Sunday.

A 1993 Toyota and a 2018 Ford were going in opposite directions on Santiago Canyon Road, west of Limestone Spur Road, when one of the vehicles crashed head-on into the other at about 9 p.m. Saturday, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The 34-year-old La Habra man driving the Ford was pronounced dead at the scene. Paramedics rushed the man inside the Toyota to Orange County Global Medical Center in Santa Ana, where the Santa Ana resident died from his injuries.

Both men were the lone occupants in their vehicles. Witnesses told the CHP the vehicles involved were a white SUV and a black pickup truck.

The CHP said alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the crash.

The agency’s Santa Ana office urged anyone with information about the accident to call them at 714-338-5500. Anonymous tip can be sent to Orange County Crime Stoppers at 855-847-6227 or occrimestoppers.org/.
