A 27-year-old man pleaded guilty Wednesday to stealing a man’s wallet and cell phone last year and was immediately sentenced to about one year of county jail and two years of formal probation.

Skylar Ray Brannen-Grove of La Quinta pleaded guilty to one felony count of grand theft of a person Wednesday at the Larson Justice Center in Indio, according to court records. He was immediately sentenced to formal probation until March 13, 2026, and 364 days of county jail.

Deputies responded at 8:20 p.m. Feb. 23, 2023, to a report of a robbery in the 45900 block of Adams Street, according to Sgt. David Aldrich of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

Brannen-Grove assaulted a La Quinta resident, stole his wallet and cell phone, then fled the area, Aldrich said. The victim, whose property was not immediately located, sustained minor injuries.

After being identified as the suspect, Brannen-Grove was found the following day in the 46300 block of Roudel Lane, less than a mile from the crime scene and was taken into custody, Aldrich said.
