A 27-year-old man has pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 11 years in prison for an attack on one man and then, while free on bail for that case, stabbing another victim in Buena Park, according to court records obtained Monday.
Robert Samuel Orona pleaded guilty Thursday to assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury and attempted murder with sentencing enhancements for inflicting great bodily injury, the personal use of a deadly weapon and committing an offense while out on bail.
Orona was given credit for 2,842 days in jail in a May 4, 2019, assault, and 1,620 days credit for the stabbing. He was sentenced to three years for the 2019 assault, which will be served concurrently with the 11 years for the stabbing.
In the Feb. 29, 2020, stabbing the attack was caught on surveillance video, prosecutors said in court papers.
As the victim was arriving home about midnight, Orona stabbed him six times with the blade breaking, allowing the man to run to safety to a friend’s home, prosecutors said. The victim was stabbed four times in the arm and twice in the chest area, with the victim suffering a collapsed lung, prosecutors said
Two days before the stabbing attack, Orona had bailed out of jail for the 2019 attack, prosecutors said.
In the 2019 attack, police spotted the victim standing shirtless in a street in Anaheim, prosecutors said.
The man said he was going to work at Disneyland when he overheard glass breaking and approached a vehicle Orona was in with others and asked them not to throw beer bottles in the street because they could be a hazard to children playing in the area, prosecutors said.
A woman in the vehicle told Orona and another man with her to attack the victim, prosecutors said. Orona punched the victim about 20 to 25 times and ripped his shirt off, prosecutors said.
