A handgun was unintentionally discharged while an on-duty LAPD sergeant was preparing it for an upcoming qualification, police said Wednesday.
A Rampart Division sergeant was preparing the gun for an upcoming qualification at around 7 p.m. Tuesday when the firearm unintentionally discharged, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
“One round was discharged into the lower shelf of a cabinet, striking a book where it came to rest. No officers or community members were injured as a result of this incident,” police said in a statement.
