A person was found dead in the slow lane of the Pomona (60) Freeway in El Monte, authorities said Monday.

The discovery was reported at 11:54 p.m. Sunday in the slow lane on the westbound Pomona Freeway just east of Rosemead Boulevard, California Highway Patrol Officer Sergio Garcia told City News Service.

Officers at the scene were investigating how the person wound up in the lane, including whether the person was a pedestrian or came from a moving vehicle.

The person’s gender and age were not immediately available.

Caltrans initially shut down the two right lanes to traffic, Garcia said.

The CHP issued a SigAlert at 12:57 a.m. Monday shutting down all westbound lanes and diverting traffic off the road at Rosemead Boulevard. The lanes were reopened at 3:49 a.m.
