An investigation continued Monday into the death of a 39-year-old pedestrian who was struck and killed near a mall in downtown Temecula.
Leland Franklin of Temecula was fatally hit at 9:55 p.m. Friday on Winchester Road, just south of Promenade Mall East, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
The agency said Franklin was in the roadway for unknown reasons when he was hit by a driver traveling at an unconfirmed speed.
The motorist, whose identity was not disclosed, immediately stopped and called 911.
Paramedics reached the location within 15 minutes and pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
Sheriff’s officials said the driver was questioned but not arrested.
Drugs and alcohol did not appear to be factors in the fatality.
