An off-duty reserve Los Angeles Police Department officer was shot at a Bellflower gas station Sunday and hospitalized with a lower leg injury.
The shooting occurred about 5:15 p.m. Sunday at Berri Brothers Gas Station at 9355 Somerset Blvd., at Clark Avenue, according to Lt. Mark Stonich of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Lakewood station.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the officer, whose name was not provided, was not the intended target of the shooting, Stonich said.
The officer was struck in the lower leg and taken to St. Francis Medical Center in Lynwood to undergo surgery for a non-life-threatening injury, according to the lieutenant.
The suspect fled the scene in a dark-colored vehicle, Stonich said.
A motive for the shooting was not immediately available.
