An all-terrain vehicle rider was injured Friday when his ATV plunged down an embankment and rolled several times in Aguanga, requiring an airlift of the victim to a hospital for treatment.

The crash was reported shortly before 5 p.m. in the area of Marmont and Reed Valley roads, just south of Cahuilla Lake, according to the Riverside County Fire Department and California Highway Patrol.

CHP officers and several engine crews were sent to the location and found the rider at the bottom of a hill, suffering from unspecified injuries that limited his mobility, according to reports from the scene.

Paramedics stabilized the victim, whose name was not released, and carried him to a makeshift landing zone, where a REACH Air ambulance retrieved him about 5:45 p.m., airlifting him to a regional trauma center for treatment.

The CHP was investigating the crash.
