A brush fire that erupted Friday adjacent to Highway 62 in North Palm Springs scorched nearly two acres and jumped a road before crews got it under control.

The non-injury blaze was reported at 12:37 p.m. along the eastbound side of the highway, near Painted Hills Road, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The agency said that multiple engine crews were sent to the location and encountered flames burning at a moderate rate amid light winds.

No homes or other structures were threatened.

The California Highway Patrol said the brusher spotted across Painted Hills and nearby Worsley Road, to the east of the highway. Painted Hills was completely closed at the location for public safety.

Firefighters fully contained the blaze at 1:45 p.m., fire Capt. John Clingingsmith told City News Service.

He said the total burn area was mapped at 1.5 acres.

As of 3:20 p.m., crews were still mopping up.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
