A woman driving a van and being chased by Los Angeles Police Department officers on the San Diego (405) Freeway in the opposite direction crashed into several vehicles Friday during a dangerous and violent pursuit.

The chase began in Venice around 4:05 a.m. after the suspect reportedly struck an LAPD patrol car, injuring two officers before heading to the freeway, KABC 7 reported.

Police deployed multiple PIT maneuvers by police caused damaged the van but did not stop the suspect, who turned in circles before driving the wrong way onto the northbound freeway multiple times, speeding away at nearly 100 mph with smoke coming from under the hood.

The van, northbound on the 405, then slammed directly unto multiple cars at a high speed before stopping near the Wilshire Boulevard exit, where police took her into custody.

Los Angeles Fire Department personnel arrived at the scene and are reporting the driver of the van hit one police car. One police officer was taken to a hospital. The driver of the can ran into three cars on the freeway.

No extrication was needed. One other person was taken to a hospital.

The crash has backed rush hour traffic, closing at least four lanes.
