A man was wounded while riding as a passenger in a stolen vehicle in Long Beach, authorities said Sunday.

Paramedics rushed the man, with a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the lower body, to a hospital, the Long Beach Police Department reported.

Officers were dispatched about 8 a.m. Saturday to the area of 6th Street and Magnolia Avenue, where the motorist and another passenger who were inside the vehicle had already fled the scene on foot.

“The (shooting) victim was a passenger in a stolen vehicle, when an unknown male adult suspect shot at the victim, striking the victim in the lower body,” according to a police statement. “Casings were recovered and strike marks were located.”

The department’s gang detectives were investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
