Firefighters went from the offensive to a defensive battle Sunday morning while working to put out heavy flames that were showing from a vacant Hollywood home.
The fire was reported at 1:03 a.m. at 1816 N. Wilton Place, according to the Los Angeles fire Department’s Nicholas Prange.
Heavy flames were showing from the two-story craftsman-style house when firefighters arrived and took up offensive positions in and on the house, Prange said.
“For a portion of the fire, firefighters retreated into the defensive mode and fought the fire from the exterior only, transitioning again inside the structure to finish extinguishing the flames in hard-to-reach areas,” Prange said.
It took the 70 firefighters 49 minutes to put out the flames, he said.
No injuries were reported, and the cause was under investigation, Prange said.
