A man was detained by authorities for his alleged involvement in shooting and killing another man in Homeland, Riverside County Sheriff’s Department officials said Monday.

Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Perris station responded to a call about an assault with a deadly weapon about 5:30 p.m. Sunday in the 31000 block of Neer Street.

According to sheriff’s Sgt. Jared Bishop, deputies arrived at the scene and located an adult male inside a vehicle with an apparent gunshot wound. The victim, whose name was not disclosed pending notification of next-of-kin, was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

“Deputies also contacted and detained a possible suspect, without incident,” Bishop said, noting that the suspect required medical attention and was transported to a hospital for treatment.

The cause of the incident was under investigation by Riverside Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit.

Anyone with information was urged to contact Investigator K. Farag of the Central Homicide Unit at 951-955-2777.
