A suspect was taken into custody in connection with a dispute that erupted outside South El Monte High School’s graduation ceremony, leaving one man stabbed, sheriff’s officials said Thursday.
The suspect’s name was not immediately released, and no other details were provided.
The stabbing occurred around 9:20 p.m. June 5 in the 1000 block of Durfee Avenue, just outside the school football field’s fence, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
A fight broke out between two men in their 20s following the graduation, a watch commander at the Temple City Sheriff’s Station told City News Service.
The fight, believed to have involved people from two separate families, resulted in one person being stabbed in the upper body and another person being punched or slapped, Sheriff’s Sgt. Richard Lewis told KNX News. The man who was stabbed was taken to a hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening.
