One person was killed and firefighters found a second victim injured halfway down a cliff in San Pedro, authorities said Sunday.

An emergency call about two victims near 807 W. Paseo Del Mar came in at 1:44 a.m. Sunday, according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Nicholas Prange.

The department organized a rescue and recovery mission by land and air, Prange said. Due to deteriorating conditions, air flights had to be called off, but firefighters were organizing a ground operation to retrieve the dead victim’s body.

The other person was being transported to a hospital with unspecified injuries, Prange said.

The ages and genders of the two victims were not immediately provided. The name of the deceased person was withheld pending notification of next of kin.
