A driver was rushed to a hospital with critical injuries after a hit-and-run crash with another vehicle in San Jacinto, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department announced Sunday.

The crash was reported at 10:05 p.m. Saturday near the intersection of Ramona Expressway and Old Mountain Avenue.

Investigators found that a blue Kia was being driven at high speeds eastbound on Ramona Expressway and was passing other eastbound traffic via the westbound lane, according to Sgt. Christopher Loucks.

While the driver of the Kia was attempting to pass a silver Chevrolet, the vehicles crashed, pushing the Chevrolet off the roadway where it overturned, according to Loucks.

The driver of the Chevy suffered critical injuries, and was rushed to a hospital and listed in stable condition.

The driver of the Kia fled the area before deputies arrived, authorities said.

Ramona Expressway between Old Mountain Avenue and East Esplanade Avenue was temporarily closed during the investigation.

Anyone with additional information regarding the crash was encouraged to contact deputy Cortez at 951-766-2368.
