Two men were injured, one critically, in a fiery four-vehicle chain reaction collision in Valley Glen Monday evening.

The crash in the 13100 block of Sherman Way, near Ethel Avenue, around 8:15 p.m. Monday, began with a car hitting the rear of a parked vehicle at curbside, according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey.

Two other unoccupied parked vehicles were also damaged, Humphrey said.

The car that initiated the collision caught fire shortly afterward and was fully engulfed in flames by the time firefighters arrived, according to Humphrey.

The two men in the burning car were able to free themselves before firefighters arrived, Humphrey said.

“The flames were quickly confined to the errant vehicle and the first vehicle it collided with,” Humphrey said..

One man in the car was taken to the hospital and listed in critical condition. The other man suffered non-life-threatening injuries and hospitalized in fair condition, according to Humphrey.

No other injuries were reported. The cause of the collision is under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department Valley Traffic Division.
