Firefighters responded to a large amount of steam coming from a sidewalk on the Veterans Administration campus near Westwood Friday evening and hazardous materials specialists determined there was no hazard present.

Firefighters responded around 7:40 p.m, according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Nicholas Prange.

Crews set up a perimeter, asked nearby building occupants to close doors and windows and shelter in place, and deployed monitoring equipment, Prange said.

The hazardous materials specialists determined that the smoke and white vapor cloud coming from underground was a large amount of steam from a construction operation and there was no hazard present and determined the site was safe, Prange said

No injuries were reported. Prange said.
