A man who was killed when the car he was driving crashed into a tree in Lancaster was publicly identified Saturday.

Deon Brashears was 30 years old, according to the Medical Examiner’s office.

The crash was reported at 1:56 a.m. Friday at the intersection of Division Street and Avenue K, Lancaster sheriff’s Lt. Mike Politano told City News Service.

A witness told deputies the car was moving at a speed of about 100 mph when the driver apparently lost control at the intersection and slammed into the tree, Politano said.

The driver was the only occupant, he said.

A news videographer at the scene reported firefighters worked to free the driver from the wreckage and then tried to save his life, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation was underway.
