Police sought the public’s help Thursday in identifying a hit-and-run motorist who killed a man in Van Nuys.

The pedestrian, identified only as a man between 60 and 70 years old, was struck by a southbound vehicle around 8:55 p.m. June 30 at the intersection of Sepulveda Boulevard and Haynes Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Detectives determined the man was struck as he walked outside of a crosswalk while “crossing mid-block” on Sepulveda Boulevard.

The driver continued south on Sepulveda without stopping, police said.

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics took the man to a hospital, where he died.

“Motorists are reminded that if they become involved in a collision, they should pull over and stop as soon as it is safe to do so, notify emergency services, and remain at the scene to identify themselves,” police said in a statement.

The city has a standing $50,000 reward offer for information that leads to a conviction in a fatal hit-and-run.

Anyone with information regarding the fatal hit-and-run crash was urged to contact LAPD Valley Traffic Division Officer Ruiz at 818-644-8026 or Officer Reyes at 818-644-8114.
