Crews knocked down a fire Tuesday evening at a textile/clothing store in the Florence area of Los Angeles, authorities said.
The fire was reported shortly after 7 p.m. Tuesday at 715 E. 59th St., one block south of Slauson Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department, which said firefighters arrived to find flames showing from the roof of the two-story structure.
The fire was apparently related to a construction roofing operation, the LAFD said.
“The rooftop fire activated fire sprinklers in the attic, which caused the ceiling to sag and leak water to the second floor below,” the department reported. “It took 44 firefighters 15 minutes to extinguish the rooftop fire.”
Crews were set to remain on scene to assist with “de-watering the building” from the fire sprinkler water.
No injuries were reported.
