At least two cats were killed Monday in a residential fire in Toluca Lake, but no people were injured.

The two-story house fire was reported in the 10100 block of West Toluca Lake Avenue shortly after 3:15 p.m., with intense flames visible on both floors, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

It took 42 minutes for 77 firefighters to confine and fully extinguish the fire, where two pet cats were pronounced dead at the scene.

Two other pet cats remained unaccounted for as firefighters began a cleanup operation.

It was unclear what may have sparked the fire, and the cause was under investigation.
