A fire that erupted Wednesday in an indoor plant nursery in Homeland destroyed the structure and spread into surrounding vegetation before it was stopped.

The non-injury blaze was reported at 4:20 p.m. near the intersection of Juniper Flats and Sky Mesa roads, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The agency said that multiple engine crews were sent to the location and encountered flames raging in the 1,600-square-foot building.

Crews quickly encircled the fire, bringing its forward rate of spread to a halt at 4:40 p.m., according to officials at the scene.

No surrounding properties were impacted.

Full containment and control of the fire were expected before 5:30 p.m.

There was no immediate word regarding what might have triggered the blaze.
