A fire in a gravel truck caused a temporary closure of the slow lane of the Golden State (5) Freeway Thursday near East Los Angeles.
The fire was reported at 3:19 a.m. on the northbound freeway, south of the San Bernardino (10) Freeway. Responding fire crews found a construction truck hauling gravel with its cab fully engulfed in flames, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The fire was quickly contained and crews began cleaning up the gravel in an effort to clear the freeway in time for rush hour, NBC4 reported.
The fire prompted a Sigalert for the slow lane of the northbound freeway for about an hour while crews contained the flames.
Video from the scene showed a firefighter battling flames so thick that the truck was hardly visible.
