Authorities sought the public’s help Wednesday to find the hit-and-run motorist responsible for fatally injuring a pedestrian in the south Los Angeles area.
Latesha Washington, 43, was struck by a speeding white BMW sedan at about 10 p.m. on Aug. 16 on Central Avenue and 88th Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
“The driver of the vehicle fled the scene without rendering aid to the victim, violating the law,” an LAPD statement said. “Paramedics with the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.”
Detectives, along with members of the victim’s family, held a news conference Wednesday morning at the LAPD’s South Traffic Division to appeal for the public’s help to find the motorist involved in the woman’s death.
“I wish you would have slowed down, because you took my daughter away and I miss her a lot,” Rosetta Ross said. “Turn yourself in for what you did because she was a loving daughter. … Please do the right thing.”
A standing reward of up to $50,000 has been offered by the city of Los Angeles for information that helps authorities solve a fatal hit-and-run.
Anyone with information on the case was urged to call Detective Gerald Chavarria of the South Traffic Division at 213-924-3621, or 877-LAPD-247.
