Deputies in Lake Elsinore conducted a DUI checkpoint that resulted in five arrests for driving under the influence and two citations for a suspended license among other infractions, authorities announced Sunday.

The checkpoint was performed on Saturday from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Riverside Drive and Stadium Way, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

The location was chosen “based on a history of DUI crashes and arrests,” the department said.

More than 900 vehicles were screened with 36 citations for unlicensed drivers, 14 vehicles towed, and three misdemeanor warrants served, the department said.

Drivers charged with DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license.
