A Banning police sweep Friday targeting convicted DUI offenders to ensure they were abiding by the terms of their probation netted six arrests for alleged violations.
“We don’t want probationers re-offending,” police spokesman Lt. Brandon Smith said. “The goal is to make sure probationers are receiving the help and guidance they need.”
Municipal police officers and Riverside County Department of Probation agents carried out probation compliance checks at just over three dozen locations throughout the city, according to Smith.
Of all the parties contacted, six were discovered to be in violation of their probation, Smith alleged.
He did not specify the types of violations.
“The probation supervision program monitors probationer treatment plans and participation in DUI prevention education through regular office visits and unannounced visits,” the lieutenant said.
A National Highway Traffic Safety Administration grant administered by the California Office of Traffic Safety provided funding for the operation.
Additional sweeps are planned in the future.
