A brush fire that started Tuesday near railroad tracks in Calimesa burned roughly an acre and prompted orders for freight train traffic to slow before crews stopped the blaze.
The non-injury brusher was reported at 4:17 p.m. in the area of San Timoteo Canyon Road and Entranz Boulevard, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
Responding fire crews encountered flames moving at a moderate rate to the northeast amid light winds.
The brusher approached the Union Pacific tracks running west-east in foothills, prompting fire officials to direct all rail traffic to slow to half speed or less while firefighters worked to establish containment lines.
A Cal Fire water-dropping helicopter was summoned to make runs on the blaze, aiding in bringing its forward rate of spread to a stop about 5:25 p.m.
Crews were expected to achieve full containment by nightfall.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
