A fire that broke out Wednesday behind a house in Riverside threatened the residence and burned alongside the Riverside (91) Freeway before it was stopped.
The blaze was reported at 12:17 p.m. in the area of the eastbound 91 and Indiana Avenue, according to the Riverside Fire Department.
The agency said multiple engine crews were sent to the location and encountered flames burning in vegetation to the rear of a property on Indiana.
Crews deployed to protect the house as the slow-moving fire spread toward the shoulder of the freeway, officials said.
California Highway Patrol officers closed one lane of an on-ramp for public safety.
The fire was contained at 12:30 p.m.
No injuries were reported. The residence was not damaged.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
