The Indio Police Department will conduct a DUI checkpoint at an undisclosed location Friday night.
The checkpoint will be held from 7 p.m. Friday until 2 a.m. Saturday, according to the department. Officers will be looking for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment in addition to checks for proper licensing.
“Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk,” according to a department statement. “Any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improve traffic safety.”
Impaired driving includes driving under the influence of alcohol, marijuana, some prescription medication and over-the-counter drugs.
DUI charges can carry punishments of jail, license suspension, insurance increases, fines, fees, DUI classes and other expenses that can exceed $10,000, the department said.
