Los Angeles Fire Department knocked down a greater alarm fire Friday at a row of commercial buildings west of the Vermont Square neighborhood.
The fire was reported at around 4:30 a.m. and fire crews responded to 2219 S. Central Ave. near East 22nd Street where they found heavy flames coming from the one-story set of buildings with four side-by-side units, LAFD spokesman Nicholas Prange said.
Using large hose lines from the outside, firefighters were able to get control of the blaze, Prange said.
It took 85 firefighters 42 minutes to extinguish the flames.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
