A man suspected of an unspecified felony eluded law enforcement Tuesday evening in a two-county high-speed pursuit before being taken into custody in South Los Angeles.
The chase began in the Torrance area near the San Diego (405) and Harbor (110) freeways Tuesday evening as the suspect drove erratically in a red Lexus sedan, exceeding speeds of 100 mph.
California Highway Patrol officers continued to chase the suspect on the Pomona (60) Freeway, onto the Orange (57) Freeway in Diamond Bar, and the Riverside (91) Freeway in Anaheim as the driver sometimes traveled with the car’s lights turned off.
CHP offices tempted several PIT maneuvers to subdue the Lexus, but to no avail. The suspect later hit a pedestrian near Avalon Boulevard and 84th Place in South Los Angeles before colliding with another vehicle in the area, according to broadcast reports.
The suspect was taken into custody shortly before 9:10 p.m. The extent of the victim’s injuries remains unknown.
