A man has tentatively settled his case against Crypto.com Arena and parent company L.A. Arena Co. LLC regarding injuries he suffered after security employees allegedly attacked him during a 2023 Drake concert
Mathew Nexus Miranda’s Los Angeles Superior Court lawsuit alleged battery, negligence and negligent hiring, supervision or retention. On Wednesday, Miranda’s attorneys filed court papers with Judge Kevin C. Brazile notifying him of a “conditional” settlement of the case with the expectation a request for dismissal will be filed by Nov. 16. No terms were divulged.
In their court papers, defense attorneys denied Miranda’s allegations and cited multiple defenses, including assumption of the risk.
Miranda attended the Drake concert on Aug. 22, 2023. After returning to his seat from the restroom, security workers asked him to get up and also accused him of throwing cups and bottles, the suit stated.
The security staff was taking Miranda to a nearby stairway when two of them grabbed him from the back of his shirt and forced him to the floor while the third worker looked on, the suit stated. Miranda was kicked four times in the face and left unconscious, according to the complaint.
A friend of Miranda tried to intercede, but the security employees told him to return to his seat, according to the suit.
Miranda was taken to a hospital emergency room for treatment and also suffered emotional distress, the suit stated.
Miranda believes that the arena was aware of previous violent encounters involving the same three security workers and other patrons, the suit stated.
