A big rig fire in an industrial area near Commerce prompted an evacuation order Tuesday due to concerns about material leaking from a pair of tanks on the vehicle.
According to the Los Angeles County Fire Department, crews responded around 12:20 p.m. to the 2700 block of South Garfield Avenue and found a truck burning near a structure.
Fire officials said two tanks on the big rig were believed to be leaking. It was not immediately clear if they were gas tanks or possibly carrying another substance. Fire crews ordered a quarter-mile evacuation zone around the vehicle as a precaution.
The fire itself was declared out about 90 minutes later, but the evacuation order remained in place early Tuesday afternoon.
There were no immediate reports of any injuries.
