An investigation was underway Friday into the death of a pedestrian who was struck while walking along a Jurupa Valley roadway.

The fatality occurred just before 4 a.m. Thursday near the intersection of Sikh Temple Way and Mission Boulevard, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

Sgt. Rafael Lopez said that the victim, whose identity was not immediately released, was walking on the westbound side of Mission when he was hit by a motorist traveling at an unconfirmed speed.

The driver, also not publicly identified, stopped and called 911.

County fire department paramedics reached the location within minutes and pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

The motorist was not hurt and was permitted to leave after being questioned by deputies. There was no evidence of alcohol or drug intoxication, according to Lopez.

The circumstances of the deadly impact, including specifically where in the roadway the victim was positioned at the time, remained under investigation Friday.

Anyone with information was asked to contact the sheriff’s Jurupa Valley station at 951-955-2600.
