Police recovered a loaded firearm from a man during an investigation in Long Beach, authorities said Saturday.

Long Beach Police Department officers were called at 9:37 p.m. Friday to the 1700 block of Stanton Place where they interviewed six witnesses who told them a suspect had threatened them, police said.

Officers detained the suspect at the scene and learned he had a loaded firearm in his possession. After determining that he was prohibited from possessing a firearm, the officers arrested him, the police department said.

Police took possession of the gun and booked the suspect in the Long Beach City Jail.

Prohibited possessors include those who have been convicted of felonies and certain misdemeanors, those who are addicted to narcotics, are subject to a domestic violence restraining order, are a mentally disordered sex offender and people who have been found mentally incompetent to stand trial.
