Firefighters knocked down a fire that started in a second-floor hallway of a three-story apartment building in the Westlake area of Los Angeles and spread to the third floor, authorities said Sunday.

One person was being assessed for injuries after jumping out of a second-floor window of the structure at 140 S. Reno St., the Los Angeles Fire Department reported.

Firefighters dispatched to the location at 11:26 a.m. had the fire out within 31 minutes of their arrival, the department said.

“The fire `appears’ to have originated in the second floor hallway and extended to the third floor,” the LAFD’s Margaret Stewart said. “A primary and secondary search of the floors and the exterior of the building are clear with no other reported injuries.”

Arson investigators were responding to the scene to investigate the cause of the fire.
