Firefighters Monday morning were battling heavy flames in at least three connected commercial units downtown containing large quantities of flammable items.
The fire was reported at 4:16 a.m. at 522 E. Ninth St., said the Los Angeles Fire Department’s Margaret Stewart.
Firefighters faced with heavy, pressurized smoke and flames through the roof took up defensive positions training heavy streams of water on the fire from outside the structure, Stewart said.
At 5 a.m., she said firefighters were making progress and that no injuries were reported.
At least two units contained “quantities of rolled textile storage,” and one unit furniture, Stewart said.
