Authorities Monday were trying to identify the motorist suspected of running over and killing a bicyclist in Riverside, then fleeing the scene.
The fatality occurred shortly before 8 p.m. Saturday in the area of Lantana Street and Streeter Avenue, on the north end of the city, according to the Riverside Police Department.
Sgt. Dan Macias said that the bicyclist was on Streeter when he was struck by an unknown vehicle, whose driver immediately fled the location.
Paramedics reached the scene within minutes and pronounced the bicyclist dead. The man’s identity was not immediately released.
Detectives from the police department’s Major Accident Investigation Team were working Monday to track down leads in the case.
