A search was underway Wednesday for an SUV driver who struck a woman crossing a San Jacinto street and then fled the scene.
The hit-and-run occurred shortly after 8 a.m. Sunday on Meridian Street, just south of Beringer Drive, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
Sgt. Patrick Lynch said that the victim, identified only as a San Jacinto resident, was attempting to cross Meridian “when she was struck by a dark-colored SUV.”
“The vehicle failed to stop and fled the collision scene southbound on Meridian,” Lynch said.
The victim was thrown to the shoulder of the roadway, and several good Samaritans came to her aid, providing what help they could until paramedics arrived. She was taken to a regional trauma center in critical condition, and remained in intensive care on Wednesday, according to Lynch.
“The vehicle was described as a compact, dark box-style SUV,” he said.
Anyone with information was asked to contact the San Jacinto sheriff’s station at 951-766-2366.
