A 51-year-old felon was arrested in Blythe Sunday on suspicion of possession of a firearm, ammunition and narcotics for sale, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies from the sheriff’s Colorado River station observed possible criminal activity while “conducting proactive policing” in the 2200 block of E. Donlon Street around 7:15 a.m. Sunday, the department said.

They contacted a man identified as Alejandro Rojas Rodriguez of Yuma, Arizona, who allegedly was found in possession of a loaded firearm and approximately 220 grams of suspected methamphetamine.

According to deputies, Rodriguez is a convicted felon, prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition.

He was arrested and booked into the Blythe Jail on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm, a felon in possession of ammunition, possession of narcotics for sales, transportation of narcotics for sales and possession of narcotics while armed with a firearm.

Information on Rodriguez’s previous conviction was not available.
