Using water drops from their air operations, Los Angeles Fire Department firefighters were able to stop the forward progress of a brush fire Tuesday in Griffith Park.

The fire was reported at 3:11 a.m. at 6300 N. Griffith Park Drive near Mt. Hollywood Drive. Using air operations and a wagon battery on top of a fire engine, fire crews were able to get a handle on the approximately quarter-acre brush fire, said LAFD spokeswoman Margaret Stewart.

Due to the very steep terrain, it will be an extended operation getting lines in place to cut around the burn area for the mop up of any remaining hot spots, Stewart added.

No injuries reported and no structures threatened nor damaged, fire officials said.
