A suspect was in custody Friday following a burglary in Blythe.
Colorado River Sheriff’s Station deputies responded to a burglary report in the 10000 block of East Vernon shortly after 4:45 p.m. Thursday, according to a Riverside County Sheriff’s Department statement.
Sheriff’s officials said an “unknown subject” entered a residence while the owner was away.
After setting up a perimeter with the Blythe Police Department, deputies “began making announcements,” and when the subject “refused to exit,” authorities entered the residence and arrested 34-year-old Blythe resident Michael Brodkin, who was hiding in a bedroom, according to the sheriff’s department.
Brodkin was booked on suspicion of burglary, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and being under the influence of a controlled substance. Inmate records indicate he was being held at the John Benoit Detention Center, tentatively set to make an initial appearance at the Blythe Courthouse on Tuesday.
An investigation as ongoing. Anyone with additional information was asked to contact Deputy Ruvalcaba at 760-921-7900.
