A 70-year-old Huntington Beach man suspected of killing a 35-year-old man in Newport Beach in 1983 was arrested Friday.
Michael Larry Manatt is accused in the Dec. 13, 1983, fatal attack on Ronald Gaskey, police said.
According to a report in the Daily Pilot in 1983, Gaskey was clubbed on the head and face. The construction worker lived alone and was found the next morning by a former girlfriend who was asked by the victim’s friends to check on him at his residence at 431 Lugonia St., the Pilot reported.
Police reopened the investigation in recent years and identified Manatt as a suspect, police said. He was arrested without incident and booked into the city’s jail.
