The Los Angeles Fire Department evacuated the area of the Anheuser-Busch facility in Van Nuys for more than two hours Saturday due to a fire involving about 10 gallons of hydrogen peroxide.
The fire was reported by employees at about noon Saturday at 8250 N. Woodley Ave., according to the LAFD’s Taylor Rappaport.
“Initial crews found a partially extinguished fire involving a large container of an unknown chemical near the production facility,” Rappaport said. “Crews further extinguished the fire without incident.”
They discovered that the hydrogen peroxide was involved in the fire upon further investigation, he said.
The area was evacuated and hazardous materials specialists evaluated the spill and monitored the air. Authorities checked people who were in the area of the spill but there were no reported injuries.
“Anytime there is a higher quantity of a material it is considered hazardous,” Rappaport told City News Service.
The evacuations were lifted and firefighters cleared the area at 2:27 p.m., Rappaport added.
