The Los Angeles County Fire Department Sunday announced the death of Captain Michael Mercado, though further details about his passing were not immediately available.
“It is with a heavy (heart) the #LACoFD share the active duty death of Fire Captain Michael H. Mercado,” the department posted on X. “Capt. Mercado faithfully served our Department, residents & communities for 25+ years.
“We extend our condolences to the family, friends & colleagues of Capt. Mercado.”
Mercado was not on duty when he died, according to multiple media reports.
The department said he was last assigned to Fire Station 90 in South El Monte.
